MSE details Capital One Arena enhancements, partners KultureCity

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) has announced the completion of a $30m (£23m/€27m) renovation project at Capital One Arena and agreed a partnership with KultureCity to support fans’ sensory needs at the venue.

The investment project complemented the $40m renovation of Capital One Arena in the summer of 2018 and is designed to transform the fan experience at the venue, which serves as the home of the Washington Capitals NHL ice hockey franchise and the Washington Wizards NBA basketball team.

Work included the installation of a huge 360-degree continuous video screen, two-sided DualTV boards, a SkyRing display, ribbon boards, LED sports and bowl lighting, a modernised 200 level concourse and updated suites. The 360-degree video screen includes the ability to retract for customised and enhanced fan entertainment.

David Touhey, president of venues for MSE, said: “With this latest round of renovations and upgrades at Capital One Arena, we have raised the game once again in terms of best-in-class arena experience for sports and entertainment.

“Features such as one of the largest 360-degree continuous screen in sports and access to live action, stats and betting lines via dual-vision corner boards and the 9,000 square foot SkyRing make Capital One Arena one of the top digitally-integrated venues in the world.”

Monumental and Aramark have also enhanced the food and beverage experience at Capital One Arena with the addition of Founding Spirits, Logan’s Sausage Company and Ben’s Chili Bowl products.

Meanwhile, MSE has teamed up with KultureCity to make Capital One Arena and all of the programmes and events it hosts sensory-inclusive. As part of the certification process, Capital One Arena staff were trained by leading medical professionals to recognise guests and fans with sensory needs and how to handle a sensory overload situation.

Sensory bags, noise-cancelling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads will also be made available to all guests who may feel overwhelmed by the environment. A dedicated quiet room will also be set up at the arena for any fans who require a calmer and more secure environment.

Touhey added: “We are proud to partner with KultureCity to help provide an inclusive and welcoming environment at Capital One Arena for fans who may have a sensory sensitivity. It is our mission at Monumental to ensure all fans have a terrific experience while enjoying a game or event at Capital One Arena.”
