Rio 2016 round-up: August 19

Each day we take a look at the main stadia and ticketing news from the 2016 Olympic Games.

Games spokesman Mario Andrada confirmed that over half of the 300,000 tickets given to schoolchildren by organisers did not end up being used. Andrada pointed to school holidays as one of the reasons why 55% of the free tickets were not claimed.

Workers at the Maracanãzinho, the name given to Rio’s volleyball venue, said the long shifts put in are proving to be worth it. The venue is open from 6.30am to 1.30am each day.

A report in the Guardian newspaper claims that cleaners at the Rio athletes’ village are earning just £1.40 an hour, the equivalent of less than £10 a day.
