Voting centre to open at Banc of California Stadium

Banc of California Stadium will join fellow Los Angeles venue Dodger Stadium in opening as a voting centre for November’s US presidential election.

L.A. County residents will be able to vote in person at Banc of California Stadium or drop off Vote by Mail ballots at the venue while adhering to social distancing guidelines. L.A. County will also provide additional election support operations at the stadium.

Banc of California Stadium is home to Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC, which made the announcement together with the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk and the California Secretary of State’s office.

LAFC will work with the California Secretary of State’s Office and L.A. County in driving messaging about voter registration, candidate information, voter education, volunteer information and more.

LAFC president and co-owner Tom Penn said: “In these unique times, LAFC remains committed to being a Force For Good in Los Angeles. We are proud to have the opportunity to step up and provide our stadium as a safe, secure and accessible regional voting centre, and we look forward to working with the Secretary of State and Los Angeles County to host voters this fall.”

Secretary of State Alex Padilla added: “Los Angeles Football Club hosting an L.A. County vote centre at Banc of California Stadium is invaluable as we confront the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are thrilled that LAFC is the first Major Soccer League team to partner with us in California. The goal is to ensure that voters can vote safe throughout the county.  As we work to identify new voting locations, poll workers and educate the public on the changes to the November General Election my hope is that this partnership inspires others to join us in building an inclusive democracy.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers have already teamed up with More Than A Vote, a non-profit voting-rights coalition which NBA star LeBron James helped set up, to open Dodger Stadium as a polling station for the election. Capital One Arena and State Farm Arena are among the other major-league venues in the US that will host polling stations of their own.
