National League football club Woking has submitted revised plans for its new stadium to the local council.
The plans have been submitted following “many months” of preparation, consultation and revision from the club. Rockvolt will serve as the stadium consultants working on behalf of Woking for the project.
The plans centre on a stadium that will seat 9,026 fans, which represents a decrease of 1,000 on the initial plans.
Woking currently sits in fourth place in the National League – the division directly below the English Football League (EFL) – and plays at the 6,000-seat Kingfield Stadium. The vision for the new Woking Community Stadium points out that Kingfield Stadium is in “poor condition” and is becoming “increasingly costly to maintain”, creating the need for a new ground to allow the club to progress.
Under the proposal, Kingfield would become Woking Community Stadium. The project would include a major new medical centre, which would have a capacity for 14,400 patients.
The multi-purpose development would also incorporate leisure activities, retail and business spaces, a dedicated bike space in every flat, electric vehicle charging points in parking spaces and various landscaped public spaces.
The stadium itself would include standing terraces behind both goals and a low, enclosed roof to shelter fans during adverse weather conditions.
