The development of Real Betis’ new Benito Villamarín Stadium has progressed further with detailed designs of the project having been presented.

Gensler and the Rafael de La-Hoz Architecture Studio are collaborating on the design of the renovated stadium, which will feature a new exterior, new dining areas, and more than triple the number of VIP seats from 1,200 to 3,700.

A roof is set to be installed over the 60,721-seat facility which will also house two new and larger video scoreboards than those currently in place.

The roof will also integrate sound and lighting systems to enhance the match day experience. Sustainability has been factored into its design as it will be able to collect rainwater for irrigation.

The LaLiga club has made an effort to enhance its food and beverage offerings to all fans with the inclusion of three large dining areas with a wide selection of choices.

The main area, which will be 1,000 square metres, will be located in the new Preferencia stand while the remaining two will be between Gol Norte and Fondo, and Gol Sur and Fondo.

The club shop will remain in its current location between Gol Norte and Preferencia but will be enlarged to 1,000 square metres over two floors.

Another space of 1,00 square metres will be set out for the museum, which is set to undergo an upgrade.

Accessibility has been a key factor in the new design and, as a result, four escalators to access the Gol Sur, Gol Norte, Fondo, and Preferencia areas have been installed, reaching the terrace of the first tier.

Real Betis is looking to enhance its non-matchday revenue through the stadium which has led to the design of a 400-seat auditorium aimed at holding corporate events. Underneath this, there will be a two-storey underground car park.

The Benito Villamarín Stadium was initially constructed in 1929 and was expanded in 1982, 2000, and 2017 with the latest increasing the stadium’s capacity from 52,000 to its current total.
